Margrit Vogt (Max Kade Distinguished Visiting Professor, Michigan State University / Universität Flensburg) presented her paper “Baroque Colors: A Concept in Transition” for the IGCS Colloquium Series on March 13, 2015. Vogt’s paper was introduced as part of a larger project that investigates the manner in which color concepts are formed and portrayed in literature across disparate historical and cultural contexts. Color concepts, Vogt argued, are not universal and invariant, but rather are socially and culturally conditioned and come to be determined in connection with the means of producing and reproducing colors that are available to any given society.
